DÉTROIT IS THE NEW BLACK
The little engine that could, the Détroit is the New Black flagship was the impetus for all future retail endeavors. Born of an idea to reposition a city narrative, this experiential destination offered space to local and under represented artists alongside national brands like Helmut Lang and Brother Vellies. A true curation of diversity. Community programming allowed visitors to engage with the space beyond commerce.
Détroit is the New Black served as an early retail pioneer in Downtown Detroit, occupying a prominent space on Woodward Ave in 2016, one of the first retailers to open downtown after the city’s bankruptcy.
The independent space operated through several iterations, closing its doors in 2022.
